स्वामी अखण्डानन्द सरस्वती का जन्म 25 जुलाई 1911 को वाराणसी मण्डल के महराई गाँव में एक सरयूपारीण ब्राह्मण परिवार में हुआ। बचपन का नाम शान्तनुबिहारी था। सात वर्ष की आयु में उनके पिता का देहांत हो गया; माता और दादा ने उनका पालन किया। दस वर्ष की आयु तक वे लघुकौमुदी, रघुवंश और तर्कसंग्रह का स्वाध्याय कर चुके थे।

Swami Akhandanand Saraswati was born on 25 July 1911 in the village of Maharai in the Varanasi region, into a Saryuparayani Brahmin family. His childhood name was Shantanubihari. He lost his father at seven and was raised by his mother and grandfather. By ten he had studied the Laghukaumudi, the Raghuvaṃśa and the Tarkasaṅgraha on his own.

1941-42 में प्रयाग में स्वामी ब्रह्मानन्द सरस्वती से संन्यास की दीक्षा हुई और शान्तनुबिहारी द्विवेदी का नाम स्वामी अखण्डानन्द सरस्वती हुआ।

In 1941-42, at Prayag, he took sannyasa from Swami Brahmanand Saraswati, and Shantanubihari Dwivedi became Swami Akhandanand Saraswati.

संन्यास से पहले ही वे कल्याण में छपे श्री उड़िया बाबा के उपदेशों से प्रभावित थे। बाद में प्रयाग में बाबा से भेंट हुई और वे उनके संग में रहे।

Even before sannyasa he was drawn to the teachings of Sri Udiya Baba, which he read in Kalyan. He later met Baba at Prayag and remained in his company.

1947 से 1957 के बीच का अधिकांश समय उन्होंने वृन्दावन में बिताया। वहाँ उन्होंने तीन न्यास स्थापित किए, जिनमें सत्साहित्य प्रकाशन न्यास उनके प्रवचनों का संपादन और प्रकाशन करता था और मासिक पत्रिका ‘चिन्तामणि’ निकालता था।

Between 1947 and 1957 he spent most of his time in Vrindavan. He founded three trusts there; the Sat Sahitya Prakashan Trust edited and published his discourses and a monthly magazine, ‘Chintamani’.

माँ ने उन्हें पहली बार मुंबई में सुना। वृन्दावन में उन्होंने माँ को अपनी पुत्री के रूप में स्वीकार किया। माँ के प्रवचन आज भी उन्हीं की शिक्षा को क्रम से खोलते हैं।

Maa first heard him in Mumbai. In Vrindavan he accepted her as his daughter. Her discourses today unfold his teaching, step by step.
